I’ve downloaded and used quite a few of these applications,
and must say that for the cost, this is a great package. There
are a wide range of products included, from PDF converters to
utilities to find deleted files. Many of these software
packages are sold seperately for the same cost, if not more,
than the cost of this entire suite.
Some of these programs are less valuable to me than other
(for instance the Cookbook Easy program), but others may find
value in them. My favorite programs, and the ones that I find
myself using the most often are Registry Easy, Driver Checker,
and Recoveryer.
If I had to pick one, I’d say my favorite would be Driver
Checker. It will automatically scan you system’s drivers, check
to see if there’s an upgrade available, and then offer you the
option of installing the updated driver. Very cool utility for
quickly updating your drivers, rather than having to go through
one by one and checking the manufacture’s website.
One of the best features about these programs is that they
are extremely easy to use, and allow even the most
inexperienced user to get the job done. I’ve found that
comparable programs can be difficult to use and can sometime
overwhelm or confuse the users, that’s not the case with ACA
Utilities.
The last thing I wanted to cover in this review is the cost
of ACA Utilities. This suite uses a slightly different
licensing structure – a annual service agreement. This means
that rather than buying the program outright, you instead pay a
yearly fee to have access to the programs.
This licensing structure may seem like a bad deal since you
end up paying every year, but let me shed some light on how
this licensing can be beneficial.
Say you purchase a program or suite outright, you have the
peace of mind that you’ll never have to pay for anything
related to the program again. However, after a year or two, the
programs are outdated and the manufacture requires you to pay
an ‘upgrade’ fee to get the latest version. Pretty lame,
right?
That’s the beauty of having an annual maintenance contract.
Even though you’re paying $47/yr, you’re guaranteed to get any
and all software upgrades that become available that year. This
is a huge benefit and will help ensure that you’re running the
latest and greatest version.
Another benefit of this licensing structure that ACA
Utilities has put in place is that as long as you’re under
contract, you’ll receive access to any programs they decide to
add to the suite. Say they come out with a new utility ½-way
through the year, rather than having to purchase that program,
you’re automatically given licensing without having to pay any
additional fees. Pretty cool, huh?
Summary: This
suite of utilities offers great value when compared with the
cost. While it has a few utilities that may not be beneficial
to all users, it definitely makes up for it in the powerful
system utilities. The licensing structure is more comparable to
a A/V program, in which it’s billed annually rather than a
one-time-fee, but this is beneficial to users because they’re
ensured to always have access to the latest version as long as
they’re under contact. This definitely get’s my seal of
approval, and I recommend it to all my family and friends.
